Simchat Torah

Simchat Torah, meaning “Rejoicing in the Law,” is a Jewish holiday celebrating the conclusion of the annual reading of the Torah and the immediate beginning of a new cycle. It is observed following Sukkot.

About the Holiday

Simchat Torah is celebrated on the 23rd day of Tishrei in the Hebrew calendar (the day after Sukkot ends). It is a joyful and festive holiday marked by dancing, singing, and celebrating God’s Torah. In Israel, Simchat Torah is observed on the same day as Shemini Atzeret (the eighth day of Sukkot). Outside of Israel, it is celebrated the day after.
